How to request an advisory opinion
Any person or City entity can request a formal advisory opinion to help guide their conduct.
Requests must be in writing and include reasonable description of the facts of a case or ethical question. The case can be real or hypothetical.
You must submit your request to the Ethics Officer. Contact the Ethics Officer if you need help preparing your request.
Advisory opinions issued by the Board are binding in future proceedings related to:
- Complaints filed against the person making or covered by the request
- The subject matter of the opinion unless otherwise stated by the Board consistent with the Board bylaws
