2nd St NE, Broadway to Lowry Ave
Project overview
The project will fix about 1 mile of 2nd Street NE, between Broadway Street NE and Lowry Avenue NE. The road has two lanes for cars and two parking lanes, and sidewalks on both sides. The area has houses, some stores, two schools, and a park.
This project is a reconstruction project that will include:
- new sidewalks
- ADA pedestrian ramps
- potential for a bikeway
- new pavement, curb and gutter
- utility upgrades
The project will also include signal improvements, new signage, and new pavement markings as needed.
Project purpose
This project is intended to improve the right-of-way for all users and modes of travel. The road was built in 1956 and is in bad condition according to the City’s pavement management system. This project provides an opportunity to incorporate ADA compliant curb ramps. They will also add trees on the side of the road and fix anything that is blocking the sidewalk. About 800 people walk on the road every day, and between 2,300 and 3,100 people drive on it.
