Hennepin Ave S and Lake St connectivity improvements

Project overview

This project will make improvements for people walking, biking, taking transit and driving. Work will take place in two phases. Interim changes will happen on Hennepin Ave in fall 2026. Permanent improvements are planned for Hennepin Ave and Lake St in 2028.

Permanent improvement project goals (construction 2028):

• Maintain plenty of space for people walking and rolling.
• Upgrade the existing bike lanes to a two-way protected bikeway on Hennepin Ave S.
• Install a new protected bikeway on Lake St.
• Provide space for curbside uses on Hennepin Ave S.
  • These may include space for loading and unloading and metered parking.

Interim improvement project goals (construction 2026):

• Improve predictability and visibility for all users before the planned changes in 2028.
• Incorporate space for curbside uses on Hennepin Ave S. to reduce curbside conflicts
  
  • These may include space for loading and unloading or metered parking.
