Program overview

Sidewalk in Minneapolis

Every year, Public Work's Sidewalk Inspections team picks different parts of the city to fix sidewalks. We fix the sidewalks that are uneven or damaged.

How we work

We repair sidewalks block by block. Repairs usually take one to two days on a single block. Crews move down a street in an area until complete, then move to the next street until we complete all work in an area.

How we select sidewalk project areas

The City chooses project locations based on inspections. The areas that we plan to fix may change.

We select locations based on many factors:

  • Length of time since we made sidewalk repairs in the area
  • Coordinating with planned and recently completed City and/or other large projects
  • How severe sidewalk issues are in an area

You'll get a notice if your property is in one of the areas we plan to fix.

Sidewalk repair options

The property owner can either:

  • Choose to use the City's contractor
  • Hire their own private contractor
