Technology Dr NE and 37th Ave NE
Project overview
The proposed project will reconstruct about 0.6 miles of 37th Avenue NE and Technology Drive, which are roads between St. Anthony Parkway and Marshall St NE.
Right now, there are only two lanes for cars and some parking on a part of 37th Avenue NE east of Marshall Street NE. There's no sidewalk on the south side of 37th Avenue NE, and only some parts have sidewalks on the north side. There's a trail for bikes and pedestrians on the north side of the road called Mississippi River Regional Trail. Technology Drive also has two lanes for cars, two parking lanes, and no sidewalks on either side. The area around the project is mostly businesses with big parking lots. The is a full reconstruction project, involving the entire right-of-way. This will include:
- new sidewalks
- ADA pedestrian ramps
- bicycle accommodations
- new pavement
- new curb and gutter
- utility improvements
The project will also include signal improvements, new signage, and new pavement markings, as needed.
Project purpose
This project is intended to improve the right-of-way for all people in all the ways they move around. The City intends to make 37th Avenue NE and Technology Drive between St. Anthony Parkway and Marshall St NE better for everyone. This road was built between the years 1900 and 1977. Due to age, this road is in bad condition and needs to be fixed. In 2022, the City measured the road and found that it is rated poor and very poor. 37th Avenue NE has about 7,850 cars driving on it every day (last counted in 2017). Technology Drive has about 837 cars driving on it every day (last counted in 2012). We don't know how many people walk or bike on this road, but we know that on a nearby bridge, about 30 to 50 people walk and 130 to 290 people bike every day.
