Update on City of Minneapolis snow clearing operations

April 1, 2023

Following the heavy, wet snowfall overnight, City of Minneapolis crews are out plowing arterial routes and will be treating hills and slippery spots as needed.

The City does not plan to declare a Snow Emergency today given the warmer temps in the forecast. Normal parking rules apply.

Due to the moisture content in the snow, crews will be careful to avoid creating windrows that block in driveways and vehicles on residential streets. Trucks in the residential areas will have plows up to create a wheel path for traffic and will be lowering the plow at the ends of streets to address windrows as necessary.

Crews will also do alley snow clearing today, which is expected to take at least 12 hours to complete.

The City urges people to help neighbors who need assistance with snow shoveling. Take frequent breaks when shoveling due to the heavy snow. Also, clear snow from around storm drains.

The City also recommends residents use the 311 smartphone app over the weekend to report concerns about conditions on streets and sidewalks. Also, minimize travel today if possible until road conditions improve.
