A new law that passed during the 2023 state legislative session went into effect in Minnesota on Saturday, June 1.
Voters who prefer to cast their ballot via mail have long been able to sign up for an ongoing list to receive an application ahead of each election cycle. Now, those voters will automatically receive a ballot for every election for which they are eligible to vote.
- Voters already on the permanent list do not need to do anything more, they will automatically begin receiving ballots each election.
- Voters who are interested in joining the permanent list can apply using the voter registration process at mnvotes.gov/register or visit vote.minneapolismn.gov to learn more.
- Voters who prefer a paper application can contact 311 to request an application via mail.
