Follow-up community engagement session on May 14th
MDHR settlement agreement
The upcoming follow-up community engagement session will focus on the community feedback we received last year about our policies on:
- Use of force
- Stops, searches, citations and arrests
- Non-discriminatory and impartial policing
- Mission, vision, values and goals
Equipment assessment completed
MDHR settlement agreement
As required by the settlement agreement, MPD had an assessment for equipment and non-database technology done. The report has been completed and is available.

In-car camera audits completed
MDHR settlement agreement
In March and April in-car camera audits were completed. A ticketing system was implemented and resulted in three vehicle repairs in March and two vehicle repairs in April.
Use of force and de-escalation policy violation reports completed

Reports were completed that list violations of the use of force and de-escalation policies in 2022 and 2023.
In-car camera audit completed

In February, an in-car camera audit was completed. The audit showed that MPD only had one in-car camera that was inoperable due to the vehicle being out of service.
Training and wellness assessments completed
MDHR settlement agreement
As required by the settlement agreement, MPD had assessments for training and wellness done. Both reports have been completed and are available.

Independent Evaluator selected
MDHR settlement agreement
The City and MDHR selected Effective Law Enforcement ALL (ELEFA) as the Independent Evaluator.
Feedback reports
MDHR settlement agreement
In August and September of 2023, we held sessions to gather feedback on policy changes. Our aim was to have a dialogue with the diverse communities we serve.
- We held nine community engagement sessions and five culturally-specific sessions. DeYoung Consulting were the facilitators and notetakers for these sessions. They encouraged conversations and documented community thoughts and opinions.

- We also held officer engagement sessions throughout MPD. They were led by Implementation Unit staff. The staff collected sworn thoughts and opinions.
