Block clubs

You can improve the quality of life on your block or in your building.

Overview

When you start or join a Minneapolis block or apartment club, you help deter crime and improve the quality of life on your block or in your building.

How clubs work

Neighbors, usually on one block, work together

  • Be aware of suspicious activity and watch out for each other.
  • Call 911 when you see suspicious activity or crimes in progress.
  • Work together to solve problems and deal with issues.

Information goes both ways

  • You receive regular, updated information about neighborhood crime from your crime prevention specialist.
  • Help us help you by letting us know what's happening on your block or in your building. Share your successes and concerns.

Start a block club

How to start a club

  • Contact your area crime prevention specialist.
  • Choose one or more neighbors to be the club leaders. We recommend having more than one person to share the responsibilities.
  • Your volunteer leaders attend training, which covers:
    • Crime prevention
    • How to organize neighbors and run effective meetings
    • How to keep the club active
    • Resources available from your crime prevention specialist

When to meet

We recommend:

  • Holding at least one meeting or social event per year.
  • Meeting more often if you have crime or livability issues.
  • Holding a National Night Out block party (the first Tuesday of August).
