Restraining order
If you are being harassed, you may be able to get a restraining order.
These incidents qualify as harassment
- A single incident of
- Physical or sexual assault
- Someone using your personal information, without consent, to invite, encourage or solicit a third party to engage in a sexual act
- Someone sharing private sexual images of you without permission
- More than one incident of unwanted acts, words or gestures that are intended to have a substantial negative effect on your safety or privacy. For example:
- Calling you on the phone
- Following you
- Going to your home after being asked not to
- Targeted residential picketing
- A pattern of attending public events after being notified that their presence is harassing to you
Your harassment claim must meet these legal requirements
Proof that you experienced at least one of the following.
- Infliction of physical harm, bodily injury or assault
- Infliction of fear of imminent physical harm
- Terroristic threats
- Acts of criminal sexual conduct
- Interference with an emergency call
